Sindh flags IV drip sets of five firms as substandard

The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has declared IV infusion (drip) sets of five companies substandard, triggering legal action against the manufacturers.

Samples collected from Karachi's Malir district and Naushahro Feroze failed to meet prescribed standards during laboratory testing, according to Director Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory Adnan Rizvi. He said all five companies' drip sets failed the tube length test.

Rizvi said the testing also revealed the use of substandard material in the manufacturing of the IV infusion sets, leading to their classification as "substandard" under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.

He added that the test reports have been forwarded to the relevant drug inspectors for legal proceedings, while copies have also been sent to the Sindh Quality Control Board for further action in accordance with regulations.

IV infusion sets are commonly used in hospitals and healthcare facilities to administer medicines and fluids to patients, making their quality critical for patient safety and effective treatment.
