Brahui poet wins 'Kamal-e-Fun' literary honour

PAL confers highest literary award to Baloch writer at National Literary Awards 2025

ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) has announced the conferment of the Kamal-e-Fun Award 2025, the country's highest literary honour in recognition of lifetime literary services, to Brahui writer and poet Abdul Rahman Brahui.

The announcement was made by the PAL Chairperson Dr Najeeba Arif, during a press conference held after the meeting of the Award Committee.

The Kamal-e-Fun Award is Pakistan's most prestigious literary award and carries a Rs10 million cash prize. The recipient for the year 2025 was selected by a panel of eminent scholars and literary figures comprising Munir Ahmed Badini, Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Dr Faheemida Hussain, Mubeen Mirza, Dr Khalid Mahmood Sanjrani, Rana Mehboob Akhtar, Dr Amjad Tufail, Dr Rubina Shaheen, Dr Abaseen Yousafzai, Hissam Hur, Sarwat Mohiuddin, Muhammad Qasim Naseem and Haris Khaleeq. The meeting was chaired by distinguished writer and intellectual Munir Ahmed Badini.

On behalf of herself and the PAL, Chairperson Professor Dr Najeeba Arif extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr Abdul Rahman Brahui and the people of Balochistan on being awarded the prestigious literary honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Munir Ahmed Badini expressed his profound pleasure that this year's Kamal-e-Fun Award had been conferred upon an eminent Brahui writer whose literary contributions constitute a valuable asset not only to Brahui literature but also to Pakistan's overall literary heritage.

Paying tribute to the overall performance of the PAL, Munir Ahmed Badini stated that, in his experience, writers and intellectuals from Balochistan have never felt like strangers since Dr Najeeba Arif assumed the leadership of the Academy.
