Balochistan traders call off planned strike

QUETTA:

The two-day shutter-down strike scheduled for August 7 and 8 in Balochistan was called off after successful negotiations between the provincial government and the business community, with authorities assuring traders that their longstanding concerns would be addressed without delay.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference at the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation Office attended by Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langue, Quetta Deputy Commissioner Mehrullah and Anjuman Tajiran Balochistan (Registered) President Abdul Rahim Agha.

Speaking on the occasion, Langue said the government was committed to maintaining peace and creating a secure environment for businesses across the province. He alleged that ongoing unrest in Balochistan was being fueled by external interference, claiming that India and hostile elements operating from Afghan territory were involved in destabilizing activities. He also expressed concern that Afghan soil continued to be used against Pakistan.
