Mera Lyari enters Oscar nominations race: Sharjeel

KARACHI:

A film produced under the Sindh government, "Mera Lyari," has entered the race for nominations at the Academy Awards, with Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon calling it a major milestone for the province's cultural and creative sectors.

The development came under discussion at a meeting of the Sindh Information Department's Film Board, chaired by Sharjeel Inam Memon, who holds the portfolios of Information, Transport and Mass Transit.

The meeting reviewed progress on the promotion of the provincial film industry, ongoing projects, future strategy, and collaboration with over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel described Mera Lyari's inclusion in the Oscars race as a "significant honour" for Pakistan, particularly Sindh. He said that securing a nomination would mark a historic milestone and help showcase the province's art, culture and creative potential on the global stage.

He added the government aimed to develop Sindh into a modern, globally competitive filmmaking hub to provide local talent with opportunities at both national and international levels.
