Sam Neill joins 'The Legend of Zelda' movie in one of his final screen appearances

Sam Neill, Dichen Lachman and Yvonne Strahovski join Nintendo and Sony’s 'The Legend of Zelda' movie adaptation

Sam Neill is set to appear in Nintendo and Sony’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, marking one of the actor’s final screen performances before his death.

Sources confirmed that Neill filmed a role in the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda movie, which completed production in April 2026. Details about his character remain undisclosed, but the project is expected to be among the final appearances from the New Zealand screen legend, who died on July 13 at the age of 78.

The film has also added actors Dichen Lachman and Yvonne Strahovski to its cast. Lachman, known for her role as Ms. Casey in Apple TV’s Severance, will reportedly portray Impa, a loyal bodyguard and advisor to Princess Zelda, played by Bo Bragason.

Strahovski, recognised for her Emmy-nominated performance as Serena Joy Waterford in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, is believed to be playing a queen character, although further details about her role have not been revealed.

The upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link opposite Bragason’s Princess Zelda. Uli Latukefu has also joined the cast as Ganondorf, the iconic villain from the video game franchise.

Directed by Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner series and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the live-action adaptation is being co-financed and distributed by Sony Pictures in partnership with Nintendo. The film is produced by Nintendo creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, with T.S. Nowlin writing the latest script draft.
