Salman Khan, sister Alvira summoned in Being Human jewellery case

Indian court directs siblings, company officials to appear in Oct over complaint linked to Being Human jewellery brand

Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his sister, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, have been summoned by a district court in India's Chandigarh in connection with a complaint related to the Being Human jewellery brand.

According to Gulf News, the court has directed Khan, Agnihotri and officials associated with the company licensed to market Being Human jewellery to appear on October 5.

The case arises from a complaint filed by businessman Arun Gupta, who alleged that he invested Rs300 million to open a Being Human jewellery outlet in Chandigarh's Manimajra after signing an agreement with the company authorised to operate the brand.

According to the complaint, around INR100 million was spent establishing the showroom. Gupta alleged that the outlet's operations were subsequently disrupted, resulting in financial losses worth crores of rupees.

 

The dispute dates back to July 2021, when police summoned Khan, Agnihotri and six others—including the chief executive of the Being Human Foundation and officials linked to the jewellery licence—for questioning as part of the investigation.

In response to the allegations at the time, the Being Human Foundation issued a detailed statement denying any involvement in the dispute. It maintained that the matter was strictly between the licensed jewellery company and another party, and said neither the foundation, Khan, Agnihotri nor any of its representatives were signatories to the memorandum of understanding at the centre of the complaint.

The foundation also clarified that Khan is the owner of the Being Human brand but does not serve as a trustee of the Being Human Foundation.

Neither Khan nor Agnihotri has publicly commented on the latest court summons.
