LHC rejects PTI plea for Iqbal Park rally

LAHORE:

The LHC also dismissed as infructuous a petition filed by the PTI seeking permission to hold a public rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on August 5, observing that the Lahore deputy commissioner had already decided the matter.

Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf heard the petition filed by PTI Lahore President Mian Usman Akram, who had made the deputy commissioner and other officials respondents.

During the hearing, the court observed that it was required to decide the matter in accordance with the law and questioned under which legal provision of Article 199 of the Constitution it could grant permission for a public gathering.
