AJK Election Commission notifies results of 21 constituencies in second phase of legislative assembly polls

PML-N is in the lead with 24 seats, while the PPP is second with 10 seats

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission on Wednesday officially notified the results of 21 constituencies contested in the second phase of the general elections, formally completing the electoral process in the Muzaffarabad Division and the seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees settled in Pakistan.

The commission issued notifications for nine general seats in the Muzaffarabad Division and 12 seats representing Kashmiri refugees settled in Pakistan, paving the way for the newly elected members to take up their positions in the AJK Legislative Assembly.

According to the notifications, Shah Ghulam Qadir was declared elected from LA-25 Neelum Valley-I, while Mian Abdul Waheed won LA-26 Neelum Valley-II.

In the Muzaffarabad constituencies, PML-N’s Noreen Arif was declared elected from LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I, while PPP’s Syed Bazal Ali Naqvi won LA-28 Muzaffarabad-II.

Sardar Mukhtar Abbasi Ahmed Khan was declared successful from LA-29 Muzaffarabad-III, Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi from LA-30 Muzaffarabad-IV, Saqib Majeed Raja from LA-31 Muzaffarabad-V, Farooq Haider Khan from LA-32 Muzaffarabad-VI and Dewan Ali Khan Chughtai from LA-33 Muzaffarabad-VII.

The commission also notified the winners of all 12 refugee seats.

Nasir Hussain Dar was declared elected from LA-34 Jammu-I, Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail from LA-35 Jammu-II, Muhammad Ahsan Raza from LA-36 Jammu-III, Maryam Javed from LA-37 Jammu-IV, Zeeshan Ali from LA-38 Jammu-V and Raja Muhammad Siddique from LA-39 Jammu-VI.

From the Kashmir Valley seats, Aamir Abdul Ghaffar won LA-40 Kashmir Valley-I, Muhammad Aamir Shah LA-41 Kashmir Valley-II, Syed Shaukat Ali Shah LA-42 Kashmir Valley-III, Muhammad Yasin Lone LA-43 Kashmir Valley-IV, Muhammad Ahmed Raza Qadri LA-44 Kashmir Valley-V and Abdul Majid Khan LA-45 Kashmir Valley-VI.

With the issuance of the notifications, the Election Commission formally concluded the second phase of the AJK general elections.

Polling for the second phase was originally scheduled for August 2. However, adverse weather, heavy rainfall and landslides disrupted the delivery of election material to polling stations in parts of LA-27 Kotla and LA-28 Lachhrat.

The commission subsequently ordered repolling in the affected areas on August 4. Polling in the two constituencies was completed under enhanced security arrangements, bringing the second phase to a close.

The results of the two-phase election have placed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the lead, with the party securing 24 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party emerged as the second-largest parliamentary force with 10 seats.

The final distribution of seats is expected to shape the political balance in the AJK Legislative Assembly and influence the process of government formation.

The notification of the successful candidates marks the formal transition from the electoral phase to the formation of the new legislative assembly, with attention now shifting towards the election of the new prime minister and other constitutional offices.
