Pakistan sweep USA 3-0 in ITF Masters World Team Championships opener

Pakistan’s over-45 men’s tennis team made a flying start to its ITF Masters World Team Championships campaign, defeating the United States 3-0 in their opening tie in Lisbon, Portugal.

The second-seeded Pakistan side delivered a dominant performance against a strong American team, showcasing the experience and quality of its seasoned players on the international stage.

The victory puts Pakistan in a strong position in the round-robin stage, with the team now preparing for a crucial encounter against Canada. A positive result in the upcoming tie could secure Pakistan’s place in the knockout rounds of the prestigious championship.

The national squad features former Davis Cup stars Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan, alongside Shehryar Salamat and Hadi Hussain Rizvi.

Pakistan entered the tournament among the favourites after earning the No. 2 seed in a competition featuring more than 30 nations and over 300 players, including former professional stars and leading Masters competitors.

The team’s performance against the USA has boosted hopes of a deep run in the championship as Pakistan continues its pursuit of international success in Masters tennis.
