Party House and Baba is You indie games announce board game adaptations
Two indie video games, Party House from UFO 50 and the puzzle title Baba is You, are being adapted into tabletop board games, bringing their distinctive gameplay mechanics to a new format.
Party House: The Deckbuilding Game will transform the UFO 50 title into a deckbuilding experience while introducing changes to its original gameplay.
The video game challenges players to host successful parties by attracting VIP guests while avoiding unwanted attention from the police or fire department.
In the original game, players balance the number of guests they invite in order to increase popularity and earn money without causing a party to fail.
Players can spend their earnings between events to expand their house or purchase new guests.
The board game adaptation will support up to four players and combine some of the original mechanics into new systems.
Money and popularity will become a single currency, while house capacity and the risk of attracting authorities will be represented through a "Trouble" system. Players will move to the shopping phase if they exceed seven Trouble during a party.
Meanwhile, Baba is You: The Board Game adapts the mechanics of the 2019 puzzle game into a competitive tabletop experience.
The original game is known for allowing players to change rules by manipulating word combinations, and the board game version will centre on connecting an "Is You" descriptor with an "Is Win" descriptor.
Party House: The Deckbuilding Game is designed by Party House and UFO 50 developer Jon Perry.
Baba is You creator Hempuli Oy also contributed to the board game adaptation, which was developed with assistance from That Time You Killed Me designer Peter C. Hayward and publisher Bitewing Games.
A Kickstarter campaign for both Party House: The Deckbuilding Game and Baba is You: The Board Game is scheduled to begin on September 15.
