Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez wedding rumours gather pace after World Cup exit

Cristiano Ronaldo and longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez have once again found themselves at the centre of wedding speculation after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite no official announcement from the couple.

The rumours gained momentum following comments Ronaldo made during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan at the end of 2025, when the Portugal captain revealed that he had already proposed to Rodriguez after ten years together.

“I had bought the ring, a friend slipped it into my hand and our daughters saw the moment. They asked me if I was going to ask their mum to marry me and I felt it was the right time to do it,” Ronaldo said.

When asked about a wedding date, however, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner remained deliberately vague, saying the ceremony would take place “after the World Cup, with the champion’s trophy.”

Portugal’s campaign ended in disappointment with a last-16 exit, prompting fans to question whether the wedding plans had also been delayed after Ronaldo’s side failed to lift the trophy.

Speculation intensified as reports suggested the weekend of August 1-2 was the most likely window for the ceremony. The timing appeared to fit Ronaldo’s schedule, with Al-Nassr not beginning their new season until mid-September, allowing the forward time before returning for pre-season preparations.

Portuguese media floated several potential venues, including the historic Quinta da Regaleira palace in Sintra, near Lisbon, where Ronaldo has reportedly been spending time while building a new home in nearby Cascais. Earlier reports had also linked the wedding to Madeira, claiming the island’s cathedral and a luxury hotel had been reserved for the occasion.

Further rumours emerged after Ronaldo shared a photo with his children boarding his private jet on July 28. The post sparked widespread speculation that the family was travelling to a secret wedding destination, with some suggesting the Balearic Islands. The trip ultimately proved to be a family holiday in Palma de Mallorca.

Media attention even extended to Brazilian singer Luan Santana, whose schedule was reportedly examined amid claims he could perform at the ceremony after having no concerts booked for the weekend.

Despite the growing speculation, Ronaldo’s sisters have dismissed suggestions that a wedding is imminent. Katia Aveiro told Portuguese magazine TV7 Dias that no date has been fixed.

“There is no date set. This year I won’t be wearing a wedding dress, not for myself and not for him,” she said, effectively putting the brakes on rumours surrounding one of football’s most anticipated weddings.
