Actor urges celebrities to join calls for justice as police continue investigating the death

Actor Shuja Asad joined protesters in Karachi over the weekend to demand justice for Mir Raza Ali, the owner of the Wafflix food chain, who died in a tragic incident on July 28.

Asad attended the demonstration in Bahadurabad alongside fellow actor Azlan Shah, expressing solidarity with Ali's family and friends. The actors urged more members of the entertainment industry, as well as social media influencers, to lend their voices to the campaign for justice.

"We saw all these people here and got inspired and found the strength to come," he said.

"I request everyone from my field and industry to come, even if it's just for 10 to 15 minutes, or at least share a post. It is very easy to sit in your luxury apartments with the air conditioner on and make a post, but coming here, standing in the heat and sending a message, is what truly matters."

Asad also criticised the slow pace of the investigation, saying authorities appeared to have devoted more attention to locating a missing dog than to identifying those responsible for Ali's death. He was referring to former cricketer Wasim Akram's pet dog, which went missing around the same time.

"We recently heard that someone's dog went missing, and the police spent a lot of time looking for it. They even held a press conference about the dog. But here, there has been no progress," he said.

Questioning the turnout at the demonstration, he added, "Why is this protest so small? Bahadurabad should be full right now."

Actor Saboor Aly also voiced support for the campaign, sharing an Instagram post that contrasted the swift recovery of the missing dog with the fact that those responsible for Ali's death have yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, videos shared widely on social media showed Ali's friends joining the protests and remembering him as someone who brought joy to those around him.

One of his friends became emotional while recalling Ali's funeral. "When I buried him with my own hands, I realised this was really Mir. I still can't believe it. If I were in his place, he would be standing here for me. I still think he will come back. His wedding was in 20 days."

Several protesters also spoke about their fears for personal safety, saying Ali's death had left them anxious about returning home each day.

Police have not yet determined the circumstances surrounding Ali's death and say they are investigating whether the case involves murder or suicide.
