Man held over daughter's death

KARACHI:

Police on Friday arrested a man after uncovering that the death of his three-year-old daughter in Liaquatabad's FC Area was caused by an accidental gunshot, not a robbery as initially claimed.

According to Sharifabad police, the suspect, Muhammad Rehman, was taken into custody after investigators found contradictions in statements given by family members regarding the incident. A spokesperson for District Central police said the child, Farwa, was fatally shot when a rifle being cleaned by her father discharged accidentally. The family had initially reported that the girl was killed during a robbery, attempting to mislead police. Police said the suspect staged the robbery narrative to evade arrest.

During the investigation, officers recovered the rifle used in the incident as well as blood-stained clothes that had been changed in an apparent effort to conceal evidence.
