KARACHI:

MQM-P lawmakers in the Sindh Assembly on Friday condemned the brutal killing of a young man, Mir Raza Ali, allegedly after abduction, terming it a failure of the provincial government to maintain law and order.

In a statement, the MPAs said the incident was yet another example of the Sindh government's inability, particularly that of the PPP, to ensure public safety.

They added that incidents of abduction, mobile snatching, robbery-related killings and other serious crimes were on the rise in Karachi, leaving citizens gripped by fear and insecurity.

"The public feels increasingly unsafe about the protection of life and property, while the Sindh government appears unable to fulfill its basic responsibility," the statement added.

The MQM-P lawmakers urged authorities to adopt an effective strategy on an emergency basis to curb rising crime, including kidnapping for ransom, street crime and murders, and to take indiscriminate legal action against criminal elements.

They also demanded the immediate arrest of all those involved in the abduction and killing of Mir Raza Ali, including facilitators, and called for strict punishment in accordance with the law.
