Spider-Man: Brand New Day is aiming to deliver the biggest box office opening of 2026 as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios prepare for the latest Tom Holland-led superhero film to arrive in cinemas.

The studio projects the film will earn $195 million domestically from 4,300 North American cinemas during its opening weekend, matching estimates from third-party tracking services.

If achieved, it would surpass Toy Story 5's $159.6 million debut to become the year's biggest domestic launch.

Sony also expects the film to collect $270 million internationally, giving it a projected global opening of $465 million.

That would make it the studio's second-largest worldwide launch behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened to $600.5 million in 2021, while surpassing Spider-Man 3's $381.6 million global debut in 2007.

The opening would also place Brand New Day among the top 10 biggest domestic opening weekends of all time, overtaking 2019's The Lion King remake, which debuted with $191.7 million.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film follows Peter Parker as he navigates life after being forgotten by those closest to him before facing a dangerous new enemy.

Alongside Holland and Zendaya, the cast includes Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

The film has also earned a 91% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of release, adding to positive early buzz.

Some analysts believe strong word of mouth could push the opening beyond current projections.

Holland, who first led a Spider-Man film with 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, also expressed his enthusiasm for continuing in the role.

"It has been the gift of my life," he said. "I will do it for as long as they'll have me. So if this movie does good, I guess we'll see!"
