Balochistan declared regular police area

Bugti-led cabinet approves scholarship scheme, police reforms and key development projects

The Balochistan provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, approved the declaration of the entire province as a regular police area following the merger of the Levies Force into the police.

Cabinet held an important meeting on Wednesday at the Chief Minister's Secretariat and approved a series of decisions covering public welfare, law and order, education, the local government system, development projects and administrative affairs.

At the outset of the meeting, prayers were offered for the elevation of ranks and forgiveness of security force officers, personnel and civilian martyrs who lost their lives in various incidents.

The cabinet approved Phase III of the Chief Minister Scholarship Programme to provide quality education opportunities to children of the labour class. Under the scheme, 300 children of registered workers from Balochistan will be admitted to a quality boarding school in Islamabad so they can receive high-standard education and better future prospects.

To further activate local government institutions, the cabinet approved the upgradation of Union Council Mesi Zai and Union Council Mai Zai to municipal committee status and the establishment of a new municipal committee in Gulistan.

It also approved the appointment of SP Nabeel Ahmed as Chief Operating Officer of the Balochistan Safe City Authority and the constitution of a parole board on the recommendations of the Home Department.

The cabinet further approved the establishment of a new police station at Marble City in district Hub to better protect industrial and commercial activities and strengthen law enforcement.

For improved planning and effective implementation of development projects across the province, the Balochistan Planning Manual was approved. The Balochistan Child Protection Rules 2026 were also cleared to reinforce the system for children's rights and protection.
