What Pakistani culture a foreigner would destroy!

Elon Musk and a bunch of other white supremacists have a common whine about immigration of non-white people into the western society. And the reason they mention so as not to sound overtly racist is that any people coming from anywhere should come legally and also must not hold antithetical views to the country they are moving to. That is what Elon Musk said to the Editor In Chief of The Economist last week.

Let us examine people moving to the United States with antithetical views to the American way of life, shall we? Elon's grandfather was arrested in Canada for trying to overthrow that government. He supported the Nazis and Hitler. He then moved to South Africa where his son and Elon's father, Errol Musk invested money in a mining company which enslaved indigenous black workers. Antithetical enough to the American psyche yet? Elon Musk avoided being drafted by moving to the United States at a young age. A man acts in the most cowardly manner by avoiding the draft and lands in the country that prides itself as "land of the free and home of the brave". The irony is not lost on me.

But I was also wondering though, imagine if the tables were turned. What if the Westerners were arriving in Pakistan to settle here. What would they be destroying?

When Pakistanis are growing up in Pakistan, they are always encouraged by almost everyone to learn and speak in English and wear western outfits. A jeans and a T-shirt for any occasion and a formal suit with a tie if it is a formal get-together, including weddings. When Pakistanis are growing up in America, however, the parents bend backwards to teach them their own language such as Urdu or Pashto and make them wear shalwar kameez during important occasions such as weddings and Eid.

Elon and other similar racist villains whine about Pakistanis by pointing to London's grooming gangs and American Muslims as not adopting the American way of life. Somehow, a woman having the ability to get naked on the beach is equated with feminist power. I will need another lifetime to understand how that actually means freedom.

If the Americans started settling in Pakistan, for example, with their jeans and shorts and their appetite for fast food, I fail to understand what Pakistani lifestyle they'd be disturbing and what, if any, noise might be made by any locals about the foreigners not adjusting to the local way of life here. What is the local way of life anyway? The religious zealot types in Pakistan would surely be the ones making noise about the presence of some foreigners but most Pakistanis pay them no attention anyway.

The Americans would bring with them their burgers and steaks, Hollywood movies and shows, basketball and football (not soccer), American English instead of the British one, American newspapers instead of Akhbar-e-Jahan, and so forth. They might celebrate Halloween around the end of October every year, followed by Thanksgiving and then Black Friday. They'd call markets as shopping malls instead of market or plaza.

And when they do all that, they would not destroy one bit of the Pakistani way of life, whatever that has become now, because all the things I have mentioned above and more, Pakistanis already do those and are fond of adopting even more of the American habits.

If you visit Islamabad, the most prejudiced Pakistani city filled with Pakistanis who practise new ways to try to become American clones, you'd realise that any American would not be surprised by the cultural shock here but by how the society here reflects their very American culture.

The only time Americans become like us is when they convert to our religion by embracing Islam. The only thing Pakistanis skip over is the religion conversion. They say some Americans are so honest that all their lifestyle reflects the life of a true Muslim minus the Kalma Shahada. Some Pakistanis are so Americanised that the only thing they lack is to sit through Sunday Church service in order to be completely American.
