Greta Lee is embracing a new chapter in her career after experiencing a breakthrough later in life.

The Golden Globe-nominated actress opened up about her journey, her latest film Late Fame, and why she remains committed to independent movies.

Lee became widely recognised after starring in Celine Song’s critically acclaimed film Past Lives, which earned her an Academy Award nomination and widespread praise in 2023. The success marked a turning point for the actress, who previously built her career with supporting roles in projects including Girls and Russian Doll.

Following her rise in Hollywood, Lee has taken on major projects such as Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, Disney’s Tron: Ares, and Toy Story 5. However, she chose to follow those blockbuster roles with the smaller independent drama Late Fame, directed by Kent Jones.

In Late Fame, Lee stars as Gloria, a struggling actress who forms a complicated relationship with a forgotten poet after his work is rediscovered by a group of young artists. The role allowed Lee to explore a more theatrical style of performance, inspired by classic Hollywood figures and stage acting.

Speaking about the importance of independent films, Lee said she hopes movies like Late Fame continue to receive support, highlighting the value of the theatrical experience and smaller stories in today’s film industry.

The actress also revealed that she is developing her own directorial project, The Eyes Are The Best Part, for Searchlight Pictures. Lee said working with filmmakers such as Celine Song, Kathryn Bigelow and Kent Jones has influenced her creative approach.

Late Fame is scheduled to arrive in select theatres on August 7, offering audiences a chance to see Lee in one of her most ambitious roles yet.
