Eva Mendes celebrates Ryan Gosling's Marvel casting with 'Ghost Rider' throwback

Mendes celebrated her partner's 'Ghost Rider' casting with a nod to the film where they first met

Eva Mendes has responded to Ryan Gosling's casting as Marvel's new Ghost Rider by sharing a tribute that references both their personal relationship and their connections to the superhero franchise.

Mendes reposted a fan-made video on Instagram following the announcement that Gosling will portray Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The edit featured the opening scene from the 2012 film The Place Beyond the Pines, in which Gosling plays motorcycle stuntman Luke Glanton, arguing that the role demonstrated why he was well suited to play the Marvel antihero.

Mendes added the caption, “Love, Roxy,” referencing Roxanne “Roxy” Simpson, the character she portrayed in the 2007 Ghost Rider film starring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze.

She later shared a second Instagram post featuring stills from her appearance in the 2007 film alongside the caption, “Feels appropriate to kick it to Roxy today.”

Marvel confirmed Gosling's casting during its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.

The film will be directed by Shawn Levy and is expected to be released in cinemas in 2028. Gosling previously collaborated with Levy on the forthcoming Star Wars: Starfighter.

The Place Beyond the Pines marked an important chapter in the couple's lives. Mendes and Gosling met while filming the 2012 drama, in which she played Romina, the former partner of Gosling's character.

They began their relationship after working together on the film and now share two daughters.
