Two AJK cops injured as protesters clash with law enforcers

Two AJK policemen were injured after protesters opened fire on law-enforcement personnel when armed groups linked to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) attempted to forcibly enter Rawalakot, police said on Monday.

Police officers had appealed to the protesters to remain peaceful and disperse, but their appeals were rejected. The situation escalated when miscreants opened fire on law-enforcement personnel, leaving two police officials injured.

A police spokesperson said that handlers of the banned JAAC's social media accounts were attempting to mislead the public by distorting facts and circulating fabricated videos. The spokesperson urged people to disregard baseless and inflammatory content on social media.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Poonch Region said that the state would ensure the rule of law and protect the lives and property of citizens at all costs. He added that indiscriminate action would be taken against anyone taking the law into their own hands, challenging the writ of the state or spreading violence.
