'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' rumours hint at Jean Grey debut as the MCU film targets an $800M global opening

A new Spider-Man: Brand New Day casting rumour has reignited speculation that Marvel Studios could introduce Jean Grey to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the upcoming Spider-Man film.

According to ComicBookMovie, citing industry insider @Cryptic4KQual, actress Olivia Booth-Ford has reportedly been cast as Sara Grey, the sister of Jean Grey. The report remains unconfirmed by Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures, but it has added momentum to long-running rumours that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will portray Jean Grey in the film.

The rumoured storyline suggests the Department of Damage Control could target Jean Grey by using her sister as leverage, potentially linking the film to the MCU's developing mutant storyline. Previous speculation has also pointed to Sink wearing colours resembling Marvel Girl's classic costume during filming, although no official character details have been announced.

The report further claims actor Billy Clements may portray Ramrod, while rumours continue that viewers could see a younger version of Jean Grey in the film. None of these casting reports have been confirmed by the studio.

Alongside the casting speculation, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is generating significant commercial expectations. According to GlobalBoxOffice, the film has reportedly surpassed $60 million in domestic pre-sales and more than $120 million worldwide ahead of its theatrical debut. The outlet projects the Marvel blockbuster could earn more than $300 million domestically and approach an $800 million global opening weekend if demand continues at its current pace.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman and Sadie Sink. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 31.
