Woman nabbed in education board scam
A bid to fraudulently withdraw Rs5.245 million from the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) was foiled after vigilant bank staff detected forged documents and alerted the authorities.
Police have arrested a woman, identified as Qurratul Ain, and sent her to jail on judicial remand while investigations continue. According to the FIR, the suspect visited a bank to obtain a demand draft in the name of the Rawalpindi education board and presented an official-looking letter authorising the transaction.
Bank officials noticed an error in the amount mentioned in the letter and asked her to have it corrected.
The woman returned a few minutes later with another letter, but bank staff became suspicious of the revised document. The bank contacted the relevant office of the Rawalpindi education board for verification, which confirmed that the letter was forged.
