Dilapidated buildings issued fresh notices

RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi District Council, Evacuee Trust Property Department and the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation have once again issued red notices directing residents to vacate 270 dilapidated multi-storey buildings across the city as monsoon rains intensify.

The three civic bodies had issued notices in June directing occupants either to vacate the unsafe buildings or carry out repairs. However, despite the passage of 40 days, not a single building has been vacated.

Fresh red notices have now been served, giving residents seven days to leave the premises.

Despite the latest notices, residents have categorically refused to vacate the buildings.

Most of the deteriorating structures are located in the old city and begin leaking during monsoon rains. The three-storey buildings are between 80 and 120 years old, with five to six families living in each.

The unsafe buildings are situated in Mohallah Shah Chan Chiragh, Sarafa Bazaar, Pul Shah Nazar, Mohallah Neyarian, Akalgarh, Bagh Sardaran, both sides of Ghazni Road, Landa Bazaar, Chittian Hattian, Ganjmandi, Gawalmandi, Sarai Mughal, Tyre Bazaar, Bohar Bazaar, Bhabhra Bazaar, Kartarpura, Bawa Roda Road, Angat Pura and Tench Bhata.
