Public schools to grow vegetables
The Punjab government has initiated a project to promote fresh vegetable cultivation on land available within government schools.
In addition, it has also ordered lambardars to grow seasonal vegetables on an acre of land in their respective areas.
The fresh vegetables will be distributed free of cost to the citizens living in the area. Each lambardar has been ordered to begin cultivating vegetables during the current monsoon season.
The Agriculture Department will provide seeds, technical agricultural advice and guidelines to assist the lamabardars. Each area's patwari will supervise the distribution of vegetables among residents of the surrounding areas.
A circular has been issued in this regard and instructions have also been issued to the Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue to implement it immediately.
School heads and focal persons have been directed to immediately prepare designated areas for kitchen gardening.
