LAHORE:

Punjab has introduced its first portable digital X-ray service for wildlife, allowing veterinarians to examine injured and sick animals at their enclosures without transporting them to external medical facilities.

The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department said the initiative aims to reduce stress on animals, minimise the risks associated with transportation and enable faster diagnosis and treatment.

The state-of-the-art portable radiology system has been installed at the Wildlife Hospital in Lahore Safari Zoo and has already been used to conduct on-site X-ray examinations of a fallow deer and a python at Lahore Zoo.

According to the department, the examinations were carried out on the directions of Lahore Zoo Director Dr Ghulam Rasool under the supervision of Deputy Director Shahzeb Khurshid.

The radiological findings helped veterinarians prepare appropriate treatment plans for both animals.
