Chenab in high flood at Head Marala

Soil's water absorption affected by rains in Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Muridke

After heavy rainfall in Gujranwala, Narowal and Sialkot, increased inflows are expected in the Hasri, Nikki Degh and Main Degh streams.

According to a handout, the soil's water absorption capacity has been affected due to persistent rains in Gujranwala, Sheikhupura

and Muridke.

It added that the situation at Balloki Barrage was improving due to an effective drainage system, while digital monitoring of Head Marala on the Chenab River indicated that although a high flood level persisted, the water level was gradually receding.

At Tarbela and Mangla dams, water inflows of 343,000 cusecs and 65,000 cusecs, respectively, were recorded, while reservoir levels stood at 1,520 feet and 1,184 feet.

A flow of 261,463 cusecs passed through the Khanki Barrage in the morning, which later declined to 181,438 cusecs.

A medium flood level was recorded in the Chenab River near Chiniot Bridge.

During the last three days, the Ravi River carried flows of up to 35,000 cusecs in the districts of Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura.

Low flood was recorded at Kalabagh on the Indus River, while the water level at Taunsa Barrage remained normal.

At Marala Barrage on the Chenab River, a high flood level of nearly 275,000 cusecs was recorded, with water levels expected to decline

Medium flood was reported at Qadirabad Barrage, where the water level was rising, while the situation at Trimmu Barrage remained normal.

Low flood was also recorded at Balloki Barrage on the Ravi River. The water level at the barrage increased gradually due to inflows from Degh Nullah.

Temporary medium flooding was reported in Basantar Nullah and Plakhoo Nullah, while water levels in Ojh Bhain, Degh Nullah and Bhambhar remained normal.

In Rajanpur, a medium flood situation was reported in the Kaha hill torrent, although water levels were receding.

The irrigation department warned that hill torrents could swell in the Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts.

In Lahore, WASA and Suthra Punjab teams completed drainage from all underpasses, roads, streets and residential localities. Rainwater was also drained from the main markets and inner streets of Fatah Garh and Baghbanpura.

Drainage and cleaning operations were also completed in Kot Addu.

Residents of Narowal said roads and markets that had been submerged in knee-deep rainwater had been cleared in a few hours.

In Kasur, water was cleared from Kutchery Chowk, Mushtaq Colony, Zulfikar Town, Qatal Garhi, Old Lorry Stand, Railway Road and Rescue Office Road.

In Sialkot, the Defence Road, Muzaffarpur, Shahabpura, Mujahid Road, Church Road, Khadim Ali Road, Ugoki Road, Mian Shamsuddin Road and other roads were also cleared.
