Colman Domingo blasts Elon Musk's plan of making 'historically accurate' AI version of 'The Odyssey'

Musk made the announcements on X following the successful box office debut of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'

Colman Domingo has criticised Elon Musk over the billionaire’s plans to create an AI-generated adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, using his guest-host appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to mock the proposal.

During his opening monologue, the Oscar-nominated actor responded to Musk’s recent announcement that his AI chatbot, Grok, would produce what he described as a “historically accurate” adaptation of the ancient Greek epic.

Musk recently wrote that before the end of the year Grok “will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”

He also shared a three-minute AI-generated scene inspired by the poem, created by a Grok user.

Referring to Musk’s criticism of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Domingo joked, “By historically accurate, he means whiter than Christmas at Cracker Barrel.”

He continued, “Of course, this is all because Elon and his Musketeers are upset over the diversity casting of The Odyssey.”

Domingo questioned the billionaire’s reasoning, adding, “And I don't want to get technical here, but you can't make a historically accurate version of something that is totally made the f**k up.”

Filmmaker Scott Derrickson also criticised Musk, writing on X, “Clearly @elonmusk doesn't know s--- about cinema & he stopped reading in his 20s.”

Musk has repeatedly criticised Christopher Nolan’s adaptation over its casting choices, including comments following the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy.

He claimed, “Chris Nolan is an anti-White racist,” later adding, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity” and describing the casting as “an insult” to Homer.

Nolan’s The Odyssey, released on July 17, features Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, and relies primarily on practical effects rather than AI-generated imagery.
