Sindh on high alert as strong monsoon system nears

The Sindh government on Thursday placed district administrations across the province on high alert as a strong monsoon system approaches, with authorities warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds until July 25.

Based on forecasts by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea, coupled with a western weather system, are likely to trigger widespread rain and isolated heavy downpours across Sindh between July 23 and July 25.

The CM directed deputy commissioners, municipal authorities, irrigation officials, health departments, rescue agencies and local govt bodies to remain vigilant, ensure preparedness of emergency teams and maintain drainage systems to mitigate urban flooding.

PDMA said dust thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain are expected in southern and central districts, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro and Shaheed Benazirabad from July 23 to 25.

The Met Office forecast indicates predominantly warm and humid conditions in Karachi over the next three days, with increasing cloud cover and chances of drizzle or light rain.
