Engineer suspended over collapsed wall

The Islamabad district administration has dismissed reports claiming that the rain-damaged safety wall on Prince Road in Phulgran was part of a Rs2.8 billion project, clarifying that the wall was constructed at a total cost of Rs250 million.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the administration said the reported project value was inaccurate and urged the public to rely on verified information.

Following a preliminary assessment, officials identified concerns over the quality of construction and suspended the site engineer responsible for the project with immediate effect.

The administration also announced that the contractor responsible for the construction would be blacklisted. It said further action would be taken in accordance with the findings of an ongoing inquiry and the applicable rules and regulations.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have ordered the demolition of the remaining section of the safety wall to eliminate any potential risk to public safety and facilitate a comprehensive structural assessment.
