Pindi finalises AJK poll preps

The district administration and police have finalised extensive security and administrative arrangements for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) refugee seats elections, scheduled to be held in Rawalpindi on August 2, to ensure the polls are conducted in a peaceful, transparent and orderly manner.

As many as 100 polling stations will be established across the district, of which 18 have been declared sensitive owing to security considerations. Police personnel will be deployed at all polling stations, while additional security measures will be implemented at the sensitive locations.

As part of the security plan, around 100 Rawalpindi Police personnel will be assigned specifically to the 18 sensitive polling stations. CCTV cameras installed at these locations will be linked to the Safe City surveillance system to enable continuous real-time monitoring throughout the polling process.

Authorities have also prepared a comprehensive transportation plan to ensure the secure movement of election materials. In addition, emergency response, civil defence and traffic management plans are being finalised to facilitate the smooth conduct of polling.

The arrangements were reviewed at a meeting jointly chaired by City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera and Deputy Commissioner retired Captain Nadeem Nasir.
