Man dies after poisoning self, three children

A 35-year-old man allegedly poisoned himself and his three young children after reportedly becoming distressed over unemployment and a domestic dispute, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred in Gulshan Rahim Town, within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station.

According to police, Azhar Ali, son of Manzoor Ahmad, allegedly mixed poisonous wheat preservation tablets into juice and gave it to his three children Dua Zahra, 12, Areej, 9 and Eshal Fatima, 6, before consuming the poisoned drink himself.

All four were rushed to Civil Hospital after their condition deteriorated.

Azhar Ali later died during treatment, while the condition of all three children was stated to be out of danger, according to hospital and police officials.

Following the incident, DSP Sadar Shahid Gujar, SHO Muhammad Ali Khan and other police officers reached the scene.

After completing legal formalities, police handed the body over to the family.
