US Embassy launches Liberty Bell Display in Islamabad to mark 250 years of independence

The United States Embassy in Islamabad on Thursday launched a "Let Freedom Ring” Liberty Bell display at Lok Virsa and the Pakistan Monument Museum featuring artworks by Pakistani artists as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of US independence.
According to a statement issued by the US Embassy, the exhibition was inaugurated at Lok Virsa Museum in a ceremony attended by US Chargé d’Affaires Andy Halus and Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi.
The initiative was organised by the US Mission to Pakistan’s Public Diplomacy Section through its Lincoln Corners network in collaboration with 16 Pakistani artists from across the country.
The embassy said each artist was invited to interpret the question: “What does freedom mean to me?” The result was 16 uniquely designed bells, each representing a Pakistani perspective on a concept central to the founding story of the United States.
The display will run from July 23 to 27 at two of Islamabad’s prominent cultural institutions — Lok Virsa Museum and the Pakistan Monument Museum. Members of the public have been invited to visit both venues during the five-day exhibition period.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Halus highlighted the significance of the project, saying: "Looking at this bell, I am reminded of something that Pakistan and the US share deeply, a belief in the power of expression, of art, and of the freedom to imagine a better world. Lok Virsa has spent decades preserving that spirit in Pakistan. Today, we are proud to add America’s own story of freedom to this special place."

The cultural minister welcomed the initiative, describing it as a reflection of the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the US and highlighting the role of cultural exchange in strengthening bilateral ties.
The “Let Freedom Ring” campaign is part of the US Mission Pakistan’s year-long “Freedom 250” programme, a global initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence through events focused on freedom, innovation and excellence.
