'Doctor Strange' director criticises Elon Musk AI Odyssey film plans, 'His opinions on art are worthless'

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has publicly criticised Elon Musk following the billionaire's latest comments about Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and his plans to create an artificial intelligence adaptation of Homer's epic poem.

Musk recently said that his AI platform, Grok, would produce "a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer" before the end of the year.

Derrickson responded on Musk's social media platform, X, with a strongly worded post rejecting the entrepreneur's views on filmmaking.

"Clearly @elonmusk doesn't know shit about cinema & he stopped reading in his 20s," Derrickson wrote. "His opinions on art are worthless."

The exchange follows months of criticism from Musk directed at Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey. Before the film's release, Musk objected to several casting decisions, including Lupita Nyong'o's role as Helen of Troy.

In March, he described Nolan as "an anti-White racist" and claimed the casting choice was made because "he wants the awards." He added that "Chris Nolan has lost his integrity" and called the decision an "insult" to Homer.

Musk also criticised the casting of Elliott Page as Sinon, reposting comments that mocked the actor.

The Odyssey is not the only film to have drawn criticism from Musk. He has previously criticised Barbie over its feminist themes and also commented on Disney's live-action Snow White starring Rachel Zegler.
