Suspect recaptured after fleeing police custody
A theft suspect who escaped from police custody at the District Courts was rearrested within seven hours during a raid in the Kanjwani area, police said on Wednesday.
The suspect, identified as Shaban, had been brought to the District Courts by Batala Colony police for a hearing in a theft case. During the court appearance, he asked to use the washroom.
Police said the suspect escaped by squeezing through a hole in a tiled wall inside the washroom.
The accompanying police personnel waited outside for some time before discovering that he had fled.
Following the escape, the CPO constituted special teams to trace and arrest the suspect. The operation was led by D-Type Colony SHO Imtiaz Aslam Gondal, ASI Muhammad Asif and Batala Colony SHO Zaheer Akhtar.
Acting on intelligence, the teams raided the Kanjwani area and rearrested the suspect within seven hours of his escape. He was subsequently returned to police custody.
The CPO said legal proceedings had also been initiated over the suspect's escape and commended the officers involved in the successful operation.
"No criminal can escape the law," he said, adding that the police would continue taking prompt action against offenders.
