Man killed as SUV runs over family sleeping on sidewalk

A man was killed and his minor son injured when a speeding SUV ran over a family sleeping on a sidewalk near Bukhari Commercial in Defence Phase VI within the limits of Darakhshan police station on Wednesday.

According to police, a 45-year-old man, identified as Khadim, died on the spot, while his four-year-old son, Zeeshan, sustained injuries. Another child remained unhurt. The victims were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

According to the family, Khadim worked as a flower seller and lived near Nasir Jump in Korangi. His children had been assisting him in selling flowers after he suffered a leg injury.

"At the time of the incident, my father and two younger brothers were resting on the footpath while I was selling flowers at a nearby signal," his son said, adding that he was informed of the accident by passersby.

Eyewitnesses said the driver, who lost control of the double-cabin vehicle, ran over the victims and later drove them to a private hospital near Kala Pul before fleeing the scene along with the vehicle. The vehicle reportedly did not have a proper registration plate and instead bore the number AFR-2026.

Police said CCTV footage from the area has been obtained and efforts are under way to trace the driver. After completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.

In a separate incident, an unidentified vehicle struck and killed a 30-year-old man near Kababjees restaurant in Karimabad within the limits of Gulberg police station. The victim, identified as Saeed, son of Arshad, was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Meanwhile, a speeding truck hit a motorcycle carrying a woman and her son near the Pakistan Marine Academy in Mauripur. As a result, the woman died on the spot, while her young son remained unhurt.

Rescue officials shifted the body to Civil Hospital. The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Hafiza, wife of Shahid Ahmed. Police said the truck driver fled the scene after the accident. The vehicle has been taken into custody, and efforts are under way to arrest the driver.

Separately, a 30-year-old factory worker died after receiving an electric shock while working at a factory near Kakar Compound in Rashidabad, SITE Area. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital, where the deceased was identified as Abid, son of Nazim Hussain. After completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to the heirs.
