Suspected robber killed in 'police encounter'

KARACHI:

A suspected robber was killed and three others were arrested in injured condition in separate alleged police encounters in Kalri, Sachal and Pakistan Bazaar areas, police said on Wednesday. A policeman was also wounded during one of the exchanges of fire.

Kalri police engaged suspects in an alleged encounter near Dua Hotel on Mauripur Road between Tuesday and Wednesday night. During the exchange of fire, one suspect was killed while a police constable sustained injuries.

Both the deceased and the injured constable were shifted to Civil Hospital, where the injured policeman was identified as 26-year-old Abdul Faeez, who is posted at Kalri police station.

Police said the deceased suspect, believed to be around 30 years old, could not be immediately identified, while his accomplice managed to escape while firing. A handgun, ammunition, a mobile phone and cash were recovered from the suspect.

In a separate incident, Sachal police arrested a suspect in injured condition after an alleged encounter near Chandio Chowk, adjacent to Sir Syed Chowk. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Khudadad, son of Lal Bakhsh, was shifted to JPMC, while his accomplice fled the scene.
