PESHAWAR:

A police constable was martyred after unidentified armed assailants opened fire on him in an ambush in the Sarwekai area of Upper South Waziristan on Wednesday.

Muharrir Constable Muhammad Mehran, who was posted at the Sarwekai Police Station, was on his way to perform official duty when unidentified attackers lying in wait opened fire near a seasonal stream close to Moula Khan Sarai. He sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.

Soon after the incident, police and other law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, collected evidence, and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers.

Police officials said investigations are underway from multiple angles, adding that it is too early to determine whether the killing resulted from personal enmity or was an act of terrorism. All possible motives are being examined, while efforts continue to identify and arrest those responsible.
