Five suspects killed in Peshawar encounters

PESHAWAR:

Five alleged hardened criminals were killed and two others were arrested in injured condition during separate police encounters carried out across six areas of Peshawar as part of an ongoing crackdown on street crime and organised criminal networks.

The operations were conducted on the directives of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed in the jurisdictions of Gulbahar, Phandu, Pahari Pura, Shahpur, Mathra and Regi police stations.

According to police, the deceased suspects were identified as Yousaf, Usman, Ahsan, Siddiqullah alias Malik and Naeem. Police claimed they were accidentally killed by gunfire from their own accomplices during exchanges of fire with law enforcement personnel. Two other suspects, identified as Muhammad Amin and Abdul Rehman, sustained injuries and were taken into custody.

Police said the suspects were wanted in numerous cases involving armed robbery resulting in fatalities, murder, attempted murder, attacks on police personnel, snatching, robbery and other serious offences.
