KARACHI:

Sindh police are moving to establish a digital forensic laboratory to strengthen criminal investigations as law enforcement grapples with increasingly tech-driven crimes, IGP Javed Alam Odho said on Tuesday.

Chairing a review meeting at the Central Police Office, IG Odho said modern crimes could no longer be tackled through conventional methods, stressing the need for technology-based, evidence-driven investigations.

Senior officers, including the additional IGP of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), DIGs of headquarters, IT, telecommunications and transport (T&T), training, and AIGs attended the meeting, where officials reviewed proposals for the lab's establishment.

The project director IT briefed participants on the proposed scope, technical requirements and operational framework of the facility. Officials were informed that nearly 97% of investigation cases now involve digital devices such as mobile phones and computers, while globally around 90% of criminal cases rely on digital evidence.
