Jessica Chastain leads supernatural horror 'Other Mommy', arriving in cinemas this October with a haunting new trailer

Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer for Other Mommy, the upcoming supernatural horror film starring Jessica Chastain in dual roles.

The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 9, 2026, bringing Josh Malerman’s acclaimed horror novel Incidents Around the House to the big screen.

Directed by Rob Savage, best known for Host and The Boogeyman, Other Mommy follows young Bela, who forms an unsettling bond with a mysterious entity living inside her home. The sinister presence takes the appearance of her own mother, creating a psychological nightmare that blurs the line between family and fear.

Academy Award-winning actress Jessica Chastain plays both Bela’s mother and the terrifying “Other Mommy,” showcasing two contrasting performances at the heart of the film. The cast also includes Jay Duplass as Bela’s father, while Arabella Olivia Clark portrays Bela. Supporting roles are played by Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen.

The screenplay has been written by Nathan Elston, an award-winning writer known for Succession, and is based on Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House. The film is produced by James Wan, alongside Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, studios recognised for producing some of the most successful horror films in recent years.

The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into the film’s eerie atmosphere, focusing on psychological tension and supernatural horror rather than conventional jump scares.
