Former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant and Jamaican entertainer LaToya Malcolm has died at the age of 35, prompting tributes from the country's pageant community and supporters.

Her death was confirmed by the Miss Universe Jamaica organisation on July 18, although no cause of death has been publicly disclosed.

Malcolm built a career spanning pageantry, acting, dance and community work. She was recognised for her contributions to Jamaica’s entertainment industry, where she spent more than a decade performing and coaching dance while mentoring aspiring artists.

In a tribute shared on social media, the Miss Universe Jamaica organisation reflected on Malcolm’s participation in the 2024 competition.

Malcolm entered her first beauty pageant in 2024, when she competed in Miss Universe Jamaica. The same year, she won the Miss Jamaica Bikini International title, a milestone she celebrated after the loss of her father earlier that year.

Beyond pageantry and entertainment, Malcolm was involved in community initiatives, including the Transition project, which supports adolescents through camps and workshops designed to encourage personal development and prepare young people for future opportunities.

Reigning Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry also paid tribute on Instagram Stories, writing, "To hear of Laloya’s passing is a great loss to her family and the wider community, Jamaica, her impact will always be remembered and her voice will not be forgotten. Wishing her family my deepest condolences. May she rest in peace."
