HW&SC employees protest 18 months of unpaid salaries

HYDERABAD:

Employees of Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation staged a protest on Monday outside Hyderabad Press Club against non-payment of salaries for the past 18 months.

The protesters, including retired employees and widows, also demanded payment of pending pensions and other dues. During the demonstration, they raised slogans against corporation officials. Leading the protest, Zakirullah, Muhammad Nadeem, Shahid Khan and others said that due to non-payment of salaries and pensions for 18 months, employees are not only facing starvation but are also suffering from mental stress and have developed various illnesses. They questioned why the government and corporation have no funds to pay employees' salaries, pensions and dues, while senior corporation officers appointed on heavy salaries are still receiving their pay and other benefits regularly.

The protesters said that employees are the backbone of any institution because it is they who run it. However, it is unfortunate that corporation employees have been protesting for 16 days for their legitimate salaries, but neither the Sindh government nor its officials are paying attention.
