SHC issues notices in BRT Yellow Line 'corruption' case

The Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to the investigating officer and the prosecutor on a bail application filed by former BRT Yellow Line project director Zamir Abbasi, who was arrested in connection with an alleged corruption case linked to the project.

Justice Mirran Muhammad Shah heard the bail petition of Abbasi. The petitioner's counsel argued that the case against Zamir Abbasi was registered on the basis of an administrative inquiry.

He contended that all decisions taken by the former project director were made in line with government policy and the World Bank framework.

The lawyer further stated that the Sindh government had pursued a policy of early completion of the project, and that all proposals related to financial payments were prepared through official files and approvals.

"No document or record was recovered from the former project director," the counsel said, adding that the provincial anti-corruption court had already formed a final opinion on the disputed contract and technical matters.

He also argued that with the investigation now complete, there was no need to keep the accused in physical custody.

After hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to the investigating officer and the prosecutor for Aug 18.
