No trace of boy swept in Nullah Leh

In an attempt to save his son, his father also jumped into the drain; both were swept away

The body of a six-year-old boy who was swept away in Nullah Leh in Rawalpindi's Gulistan Colony remained untraced for a second consecutive day, despite an extensive search operation by Rescue 1122. Officials indicated that the search and rescue operation would continue for a third day.

According to Rescue 1122, Muhammad Zahid fell into Nullah Leh near Lift Wali Gali in Lane No 3 of Gulistan Colony at around 11am on Saturday. In a desperate attempt to save his son, his father, 36-year-old Mehrban Khan, jumped into the drain. However, both were overwhelmed by the depth of the water and its swift current.

Rescue 1122 water rescue teams reached the scene immediately and launched a search operation. After hours of efforts, rescuers recovered the body of Mehrban Khan from the drain, but the child could not be located before nightfall, forcing the operation to be suspended temporarily due to darkness.

The search resumed at first light on Sunday and continued throughout the day. However, despite exhaustive efforts, the child remained missing by sunset.

District Emergency Officer Engineer Sibghatullah said the operation had been divided into three operational sectors to ensure a systematic search over an approximately 10-kilometre stretch of Nullah Leh.
