Harry Potter cinematographer Adriano Goldman reveals challenges filming around the young cast’s strict schedules

HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series is facing unique production challenges as the filmmakers work around the demanding schedules of its young cast members.

Cinematographer Adriano Goldman recently revealed that filming the highly anticipated reboot has been “brutal” because the production must balance long shooting days with the children’s education requirements.

Speaking in an interview with Andre Pilli, Goldman explained that the camera team has to work quickly due to the limited time the young actors can spend on set. He said the production often requires careful planning and pre-shooting scenes while the child actors are attending classes.

Goldman revealed that actors Dominic McLaughlin, who plays Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, typically have short windows for filming. The cinematographer explained that the team may have only around an hour and a half with the young stars, during which they must complete multiple camera setups.

Because of these restrictions, scenes are filmed out of order, creating a complex production process for the HBO adaptation. Goldman noted that managing the schedule requires a specific filming approach to maintain quality while meeting the needs of the young performers.

To support the cast, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden reportedly created a temporary on-site school facility where young actors can continue their studies while working on the series. The classrooms allow performers to balance filming commitments with education during the lengthy production period.

The HBO Harry Potter series is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on December 25, 2026, bringing a new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved wizarding world to television audiences.
