KARACHI:

A family was left counting its losses after four newly hired domestic workers allegedly disappeared with gold jewellery worth more than Rs10 million from a house in Bahadurabad's New Town, prompting police to register a theft case and launch an investigation.

The case was filed on the complaint of Abdul Samad who alleged that four women hired for household chores stole his wife's jewellery and fled. In his statement to police, Samad said he lives with his father, mother and wife. He added that his wife was away for Umrah when the incident occurred. Samad's mother had contacted a woman identified as Samina, to send domestic help for household work.

The complainant said his mother later questioned Samina about the women, to which she allegedly replied that the workers had approached her daughter on the street while looking for employment and that she had no further responsibility for them. Samad expressed suspicion that she may have been involved with the women and said he and his mother could identify the suspects.
