Govt fast-tracks Red Line BRT construction to ease city's traffic woes

In a move aimed at easing the city's perennial traffic woes, the Sindh government has decided to open the mixed traffic lane on University Road at the earliest, offering much-needed relief to commuters.

The decision was announced during a high-level meeting on the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday.

The meeting reviewed the ongoing construction work and overall progress of the project in detail. Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, Trans Karachi CEO Zubair Chinah, project consultants and senior officials from relevant departments were in attendance.

Officials briefed the minister on construction activities across various sections of the project, the challenges being faced and the measures being taken for their immediate resolution. They said work on the Red Line BRT was progressing at a rapid pace, with all relevant departments working in close coordination to further expedite progress on different sections.

"The Red Line BRT is a revolutionary transport project for the people of Karachi, and its timely completion is among our top priorities," Sharjeel said, directing all departments to effectively fulfill their responsibilities to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
