KARACHI
French Consul General Alexis Chahtahtinsky has announced that the French diplomatic mission in the metropolis was preparing to close down permanently.
He was addressing the karachiites and expatriates, who converged at Beach Luxury Hotel to celebrate the French National (Bastille) Day.
Alexis Chahtahtinsky pointed out that the decision was made by the French government solely for the budgetary reasons, as part of an effort to make the French presence thinner and leaner, not just in Pakistan but all across foreign countries.
"We shall continue deepening our relationship with Pakistan, primarily though our Embassy in Islamabad". Alexis Chahtahtinsky further said that the French presence in Karachi will remain, relying on three pillars: The new Honorary Consul General, who shall perform consular duties and remain in touch with the provincial governments; The Pakistan France Business Alliance (PFBA) will continue actively promoting business and trade; Alliance Francaise (French Cultural Centre) will continue to play its full role in promoting French language and culture in this 'vibrant city'.
