Christopher Nolan has shared a rare update on his upcoming epic The Odyssey, revealing that the highly anticipated film wrapped production ahead of schedule despite its demanding shoot.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Oscar-winning filmmaker said the success of Oppenheimer helped him secure the resources needed to bring Homer's classic tale to the big screen.

"Coming out of my last film, Oppenheimer, [it] had way more success than I think we had any right to expect," Nolan said. "That gives you an opportunity to get something made that you might not otherwise be able to get made."

Asked whether the film's Oscar success also played a role, Nolan replied, "I think the Oscar thing helped. I think it all helped to go to the studio and say... because being The Odyssey, it needs a massive budget, it needs a massive cast, it needs a lot."

Despite the film's enormous scale, Nolan confirmed that production wrapped earlier than originally planned.

"We went in at 100 days, and by day 91, we couldn't have taken another step," he said. "So we finished at the right time. We were done. Everybody was done. People were just exhausted. They'd been through it."

Nolan added that while the production was challenging, it was exactly what he expected from adapting one of literature's greatest epics.

"It was a very hard movie, but hard for all the right reasons," he said. "The Odyssey should be hard."

The filmmaker also credited having the necessary time and resources for allowing the production to run smoothly, saying the team had everything it needed to complete the ambitious project.

The Odyssey is one of Nolan's most anticipated films to date, featuring a star-studded cast and bringing Homer's legendary tale of Odysseus' long journey home to the big screen. The film is currently scheduled for release in 2027.
