Woman held over abuse of child maid
A woman was arrested after allegedly subjecting a six-year-old domestic worker to physical abuse, police said on Monday.
According to the police, the victim, Allah Rakhi, had been working as domestic help at the home of a relative, Kulsoom, in College Town.
The child's father, Abdul Rashid, a resident of Ratta Tibba, filed a complaint with Vehari city police, alleging that she had been repeatedly beaten up by her employer over a minor mistake.
The police registered a case under Section 328-A of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched an investigation.
Following the complaint, Station House Officer (SHO) Zubair Ahmed Sandhu led a police team that rescued the child and reunited her with her parents.
The employer was arrested.
According to the first information report (FIR), the girl had marks of physical abuse.
The child told investigators that she had been subjected to violence for the past two months and her arm had been severely injured, restricting its movement.
The police said the investigation was being conducted in the light of the victim's medical examination, forensic evidence and other available clues.
District Police Officer (DPO) Tasawar Iqbal stated that violence against children, particularly domestic workers, would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He said the police had acted promptly to rescue the child, arrest the suspect and register the case.
